THE SCARF JOINT
I have never scarfed a piece of plywood before, in fact I have never scarfed anything really except prehaps a plate full of delicious nachos I dreaded this part. I thought about
if for a long time. I did a couple of tests on cheap plywood first. They were not that great but I learned enough from it to have confidence in giving it a go on the good marine ply.
So here is what I did:
This is 6mm plywood (a little less than 1/4") so there isn't much to work with. I decided to cut the angle 2 1/4" back. I don't think it could take much more angle than that.
I hit it with the orbital sander for a few minutes and... Voila!
This picture makes it look like there is a gap because the clamp is pushing toward the back Here is the joint as it looks on the tunnel side plank after installation. Its perfectly flat!
but this is actually a perfect fit. My first scarf joint, whaoo!
